bus stops

as i am lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time commuting, i get to put in my daily amount of people-watching on busses and at bus stops.

from this very favourite pasttime, i have noticed something that renders me even more lazy*, but particularly handy when you're at my bus stop, which has a bench undercover that has no view of the street.

there is a certain step that 90% of people at the stop take, and that is either forwards to indicate a bus they want is coming and are planning to get on board, or backwards as a public show of the fact that it is not their bus.
this way, if you can't see the street, because, say, the bench you and your concrete cube are sitting on is conveniently hidden behind a large covering, just watch the other people at the stop.

albeit a tad creepy, you won't have to stand whilst waiting.

* disclaimer!
i'm a design student, which means my daily luggage could consist of anything from a large drawing board to an even larger (sometimes larger than myself) piece of box board, to a giant box full of models, to a super heavy concrete cube.
so my want need for a seat is quite justified, okay?!

canine snuggie

my new invention

made when an old towel - with a hole - was put over the head of my surprisingly neutral labrador.
she just sat there and put up with it, without complaining or trying to take it off.

my blue heeler, on the other hand, wasn't happy because the labrador was sitting whilst he was trying to play with her!

shoe rack inspiration

so when i saw this wine rack-esque thing i knew i had to use it for something.
it is being used as a shoe rack at the moment, but it will in the future be the inspiration for an eva-made properly fitting shoe rack in my cupboard.

if you can't see because the photo is at a bizarre angle, it has diagonal shelves.

literature

and continuing yesterday's theme

the 2006 Ignobel for Literature went to Daniel M. Oppenheimer of Princeton University for his report "Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Neccesity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly".

i love funny people!

oh dear

i pride myself in my bad ass spelling/grammar skillz, and when a mistake is made it is generally in jest but i am ashamed to admit that only today did i find out that criteria is a plural word, and criterion is the singular version of it.

fail.

ahhh, beauty materialised

so during my procrastination research
i stumbled upon this

if i was a building, i'd want to be something like this.
is that one of those things that people tell you not to say out loud?
the zollverein school of management and design in essen, germany.
an amazing piece of work by japanese pritzker prize winners SANAA

since just 1995 they have created some beautiful buildings and when i saw this one i was equally gobsmacked by it as with every other creation.

the wonder of it is the simple exterior but then you see it from the inside and those simple cutouts seen on the facade are revealed to be beautiful windows that create a breathtaking light quality inside

i'm a sucker for methodical, geometric designs [within reason of course] and this picture above just encompasses that aesthetic

non-contact lenses

have you ever seen white eyes?

i encountered someone the other day and i swear his eyes were white, like glow-in-the-dark white. they must have been such a pale blue that they were shiny and bright and made me a bit nervous.

or my friend's dog, he has these crazy luminous white eyes?
at least the guy could have been wearing contacts, but the dog eyes are real.

anyone else ever seen white eyes? or am i alone in this endeavour?
