trippy bookcase

how cool is this bookcase?imagine walking through - it'd be so trippy!

check out the other pictures plus the description and video of making of/walkthrough here

the video is a must see, because it shows the room better.
i thought at first that it was a narrow corridor - but i think it looks nice in this huge room
it's almost like a living thing, because it bubbles outward from the wall.

rules of rainy day etiquette

1) when walking with umbrellas, leave ample room for others to walk past you, especially if they also have an umbrella. don't walk right next to them and get them wet when your umbrella collides with theirs.

2) make sure to avoid puddles. if you are an avid puddle fan, please wait until all others are out of the splash range before engaging in said jumping activities. don't get others wet because it's fun for you. it's not for us.

3) to continue on the puddle theme, can car drivers please avoid driving right next to the curb just to splash pedestrians. we shouldn't be soaked because we're doing out bit for the environment by not driving. don't purposefully veer to the side, we can see you doing it.

i rest my case.

on a side note: 100th post! woop!

shifting

one thing i'd like to learn this year is tilt shift photography.

it's an amazing photography technique (using lots of expensive equipment which i do not have) to make real-sized things look like models.

this is very close to my heart because miniature things are my thing.
see the tag called fimo if you're not sure what i mean.

here are some photos that i've found on the net, on this website.

aren't they just amazing?

one day i'll post my photos. one day.

handwriting

sometimes when i'm writing notes, i'll write so fast that i'll occasionally skip letters.
but then i look back and it doesn't look wrong.

because instead of just normal-skipping, i combine letters.

the other day i wrote 'thinker' and combined the k and e to make one letter so that from afar it just looked like two even though i knew i only wrote one letter.

bizarre, yet it works.
i'm sure there are many similar cases that i haven't picked up on because it looks right.

ah retrospect.

i was listening to the radio this morning and the announcer was saying how he checked his daughter's facebook and most of the kids were online during the day on their phones.
this got me thinking - what did we do in class when i was younger? we didn't have facebook mobile or iPhones or for that matter, iPods for a while..

but what we did do

was play

snake!

and now there is a convenient online version here.

go carazy!

train motion sickness

after spending 3 and a half hours on a fast train, you get used to the subtle movements. but after spending 3 and a half hours off the train, walking around and sitting to eat lunch, and you still move?

well that's train motion sickness.
it's as if you're still on the train, and you pretty much only notice it if you're sitting down.
it's a pretty weird sensation that i have had the great pleasure of experiencing.

to achieve great things,

two things are needed;

a plan, and not quite enough time.

this is so so so true.
i'm always the most efficient the night before something's due.
or that morning, when i wake up at 5.
which is why i won't be blogging for a couple of days -
i need to crank out the assignments and need to focus!

glenn murcutt, green architecture and trendir love

man, i could write an entire blog about the houses on trendir and how much i love them.
THIS much.

this particular house makes use of a concept that i have come across recently. it is the idea for architecture and design to 'touch this earth lightly'. it is the motto of aussie architect glenn murcutt.
i first read it in a book called 'green architecture: design for a sustainable future' by brenda and robert vale.

it means the need for respect of a site, that the building will have as little impact on the natural world as possible. i love this concept and it has been rattling around in my empty head for a while now.
murcutt's wikipedia page states that it also means to design works to fit into the aussie landscape features. he pays attention to wind direction, water movement, temperature and light surrounding his sites before designing the building. how awesome does that sound?!

then when i visited trendir again
i saw this house. i think it goes perfectly with the touching the earth lightly phrase, maybe not in the eco-friendly sense (because i don't know the building specs), but the aesthetic sense.
the thing i love about it is that it is so beautiful, yet it blends into the landscape. maybe it's the glass, and seeing through helps with this, or maybe the materials used, but it's just perfect for the location.
the green grass surrounding it reminds me of a lot of things. but the main thing i think is, hopefully they won't get neighbours or it will ruin the whole look of the house. as well as it being extremely easy to spy on the occupents.what about this killer view!
nothingness. serenity. yes please

what about this view, and the perfect symmetry between inside and outside. you can hardly tell. one for eva? i thinkso.

and the view of the mountains as well? oh they are so lucky!

powerade

i just re-discovered this old photo.

and i'm back!

so i'm back from melbourne.

it was crazy. fun and frustrating. tiring but awesome. i'm glad i went.

i'm going to be randomly blogging about melbourne but continuing with all the other posts i can't wait to share as well. my favourite photos are from my plane trip down there :)

here is a starter. this is the view of the royal exhibiton centre, complete with people doing tai chi.

oh and i only took down my point and shoot camera, which is still awesome, but i do prefer the photos taken with the slr.

what makes me happy

i know most people this motivational stuff kinda cheesy, but on the worst days, it's nice to know there are people out there who want to help you feel better.

during my last year of school, my website of choice was fmylife, where i could laugh and feel schadenfreude :)

now my website choice has changed to other things, although i still read FML sometimes.

everytime i go to this website, i find something to improve my spirits.
alex is an amazing writer, and along with his team, has created a blog full of inspirational and amazing stories.

the one i love at the moment is this article, 30 true things you need to know now.
please go and read it, because it's got some pretty amazing quotes on there. since last thursday i have a new quote on my wall -

if the map doesn't agree with the ground, the map is wrong.
- dr. gordon livingston

it doesn't necessarily connect to what alex wrote about, but i found it such a nice quote i had to stick it up on my wall.

and one day i will share my wall of love on this blog.

jumpy jump jump

as a normal human being, i am prone to procrastination. and during said procrastination i usually make use of this great thing i have access to, called the internet. ever heard of it? it's pretty awesome.

ANYWHO.

i am generally found browsing sites such as 2leep because they always link to some awesome articles, even if it means combatting various popups and ads on the sides. on one such encounter i stumbled upon these pics.

this is amazing!!!!!!
not only does he look amazing, but the pic doesn't look like a friend captured the right moment in a jump, there are no shadows etc. some pretty good lighting used here.

just holding a lamp whilst levitating. the norm.

love the look of her holding the phone and the friend coming out of the bathroom

there are a few more but these are just amazing! how do they make it look so effortless? beds arent like trampolines that almost propel you upwards, you have to jump with your legs. especially this last one - imagine the timing!!!

now i don't know who took these pics, but they all look like hotel rooms to me (they're too neat and clean to be household bedrooms) so i'm wondering whether maybe it was the same person?

milano stairs

when in milan, do as others do?
it doesn't quite work does it.

well anyway, when we were there we climbed the piazza duomo. everyone went up via the same stairs and then came down on the same stairs. as we went up, people coming down were counting loudly and we got disheartened at hearing how many stairs they had counted already and therefore how many we had left.

so when someone said 67 left and we were up in the next 10 steps we were surprised and realised they lied to us.

so when we went down we counted fake numbers.
after the third turn we said something like 78 and one girl went WHAT? nooooo.

i'm pretty sure she's the only one we fooled but it was worth it. :)

beds

and now, having been inspired by the previous post,
i find myself wishing for a round bed. maybe not with tomato slice pillows because of the aforementioned diagnosis of sleep action..

but how about these ones

two sleek, modern takes on the horrible 80s stereotype.
this is what yummy is.
special love for the floating one. a great idea, cleans out the space underneath in case of the existance of monsters, and looks beautiful attached to the cement wall.

BUT this is the one i would buy.
maybe the colours could be different, but i love the continuity of the round mirrors and the subtle headboard. or i might combine it with the other and making it floating against a cement wall?

for more info/designers, click here or the pictures.

hamburger bed yum!

om nom nom

check it out here

i can just imagine sleeping in this every night.
and the funny part is, my dreams are always always affected by where i am sleeping. and i sleep action. so id probably end up eating a pillow or something whilst dreaming about maccas. yup.

note: sleep action. equivalent of sleep talking, but doing actions. not, but related to, sleep walking.
and i also sleep talk. but that's another story.
