gotta love art

i've just been bombarded with lots of installation artists recently at uni

and then i went through my bookmarks of found stuff and saw this

and i still want to do it myself

because just how amazing does it look?!?

and what is it? seems like just magazine cutouts!

also this reminds me of a model of a city.
lots of little buildings, spaces of water, frames.

ah quotes

can i just point out how much i love clients from hell?
the website description says 'a collection of anonymously contributed client horror stories from designers.'

a few brilliant examples

"I want it to roar like lion. Like a digital lion.. Actually, let’s add a lion somewhere. Or maybe have it meow and then have a cat. I hear people on the internet like cats."
— Client sells home insurance.

"I know what I like and what I don’t like and I know what I want and what I don’t want but I have nothing specific in mind."

"I don’t have the money right now. Could I pay you with some of our puppies? How many do you need?"

sleepy time?

ernesto neto

wikipedia says:
'His installations are large, soft, biomorphic sculptures that fill an exhibition space that viewers can touch, poke, and even sometimes walk on or through. These are made of white, stretchy, stockinglike material -- amorphous forms stuffed with Styrofoam pellets or, on occasion, aromatic spices.'

absolutely delicious
does anyone else have the desire to nap?

i want a room like this one in my place someday.

and a table full of delicious food

but because i love food so much, i just don't know where to stop?

i would love to have the originals, little cucumber sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, scones, mini fruit tarts and the like?

or should i go with other delicious sounding things, like proscuitto melon wraps, mini baked ricottas, baby friands and macarons?

or should i do a mix, go with both types and inevitably end up with a plethora of leftovers?

hopefully it'll be a little something like this

best quote i've heard in a while

after a particularly detailed lecture on typography and composition (including a list of fonts to think about before using), this makes me smile:

BIG 8 house

i love that this is what i watch in class

can i just point out how epic this is?
it's an absolutely amazing housing project in denmark by BIG
but the awesome thing about it, is the way it's inspired by program, by what functions it needs to fulfill and developing those into a building.

check out the info here

allandale house

now this is a house that i love

it's a holiday house, so it's quite simple and minimal.

but just look at the beautiful frame of the building, it's such a simple but effective shape.

this is what i want, beautiful, clean interiors with focus on the vista. and come on, these photos are just beautiful. according to the architect's website, the house was created to house an ecclectic collection, including rare books (sigh), wine, stuffed birds and an elk mount.

i really really really want one.

bus stops

as i am lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time commuting, i get to put in my daily amount of people-watching on busses and at bus stops.

from this very favourite pasttime, i have noticed something that renders me even more lazy*, but particularly handy when you're at my bus stop, which has a bench undercover that has no view of the street.

there is a certain step that 90% of people at the stop take, and that is either forwards to indicate a bus they want is coming and are planning to get on board, or backwards as a public show of the fact that it is not their bus.
this way, if you can't see the street, because, say, the bench you and your concrete cube are sitting on is conveniently hidden behind a large covering, just watch the other people at the stop.

albeit a tad creepy, you won't have to stand whilst waiting.

* disclaimer!
i'm a design student, which means my daily luggage could consist of anything from a large drawing board to an even larger (sometimes larger than myself) piece of box board, to a giant box full of models, to a super heavy concrete cube.
so my want need for a seat is quite justified, okay?!

canine snuggie

my new invention

made when an old towel - with a hole - was put over the head of my surprisingly neutral labrador.
she just sat there and put up with it, without complaining or trying to take it off.

my blue heeler, on the other hand, wasn't happy because the labrador was sitting whilst he was trying to play with her!

shoe rack inspiration

so when i saw this wine rack-esque thing i knew i had to use it for something.
it is being used as a shoe rack at the moment, but it will in the future be the inspiration for an eva-made properly fitting shoe rack in my cupboard.

if you can't see because the photo is at a bizarre angle, it has diagonal shelves.

and continuing yesterday's theme

the 2006 Ignobel for Literature went to Daniel M. Oppenheimer of Princeton University for his report "Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Neccesity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly".

i love funny people!
