awkward much?
so when i was away on my wonderful bus trip, i made some great friends, including those who also love singing loudly on long trips.
we were listening to this song and singing it at the same time. i guess it might have been a little awkward?

words
there are many variations of this quote, but a friend told me this one
do not lie, steal, cheat or drink, but if you must; lie in the arms of the one you love, steal one's heart, cheat death and drink to good health.

laneways
whenever i used to think of melbourne, my only point of reference (other than the airport) was the ad below. and pretty much all that i got from it was that melbourne has some beautiful and magical laneways. but where's the wool guys?
so here are my photos of the laneways.

avenue q
and thanks to the last post, i was reminded of this truly wonderful song
because of the line
"don'cha feel all warm and cosy watching people out in the rain?
you BET!
that's schadenfreude*, people talking pleasure in your pain."
i was absolutely thrilled to go and see this wonderful musical, avenue q, when it was here in sydney last year. i've known the songs for about, i don't know, 6 years and was looking forward to the chance to see it in america sometime, so when it came here i jumped for joy!
it was absolutely hilarious and i'm sure the people i went with thought the same, especially as i was able to sing along to every single song and truly improve their experience of the whole thing *cough*
i'm an avenue q nerd!

rain
happy and unhappy are on two opposite sides of the spectrum.
but the rain can make one feel both feelings.
when you're in the rain, it sucks. especially if you have to walk somewhere and your feet get extremely wet and then you arrive and the bottom half of your leg is soaked and there's nothing you can do about it except wallow in soggy socks until you return home.
but when you're inside, it's a calming to hear the rain just outside your window. being tucked up in bed with a hot chocolate and wonderful book, (even if it's the bfg by roald dahl, don't mock my literary choices) is a welcoming time for the gentle monotony of water on the roof.
am i right?

federation square
and who goes to melbourne without going to fed square? i absolutely love the paved courtyard and when we were there they had all these lights going up for some winter festival i think?
it is so cool! all the buildings are mammoth and it's so spacious AND we spent ages in the acmi, the australian centre for the moving image, which was amazing and something i recommend for everyone!

mont-saint-hilaire, canadian architecture
just look at this majestic home in mont-saint-hilaire in canada
i loooove the above photo, with the sun coming from behind the house and the snow and the bare trees. i'm in love. and i love the timber exterior, wood is just an amazing texture (when done properly of course)

amazing week
and im back from my week of wonderful
so when i first heard about the aforementioned volunteer trip, i thought it would be an awesome way to do something great and useful during my holidays
what i didn't realise was what an impact 36 young adults can make on a community, whether it be planting 400 tree saplings or beautifying a health centre or moving TEN TONNES of mulch in such a small amount of time.
i didn't realise how much fun the bus trips would be, where we danced (and sang) to justin bieber in the aisles, as well as participated in bus idol AND bonded with the best bus driver ever!
i didn't realise how much we would bond as a team and friends and i know i've made lifelong friendships
i didn't realise the withdrawal symptoms i would have, particularly not being surrounded by 35 others when trying to sleep
i didn't realise just how much i would love it.
i hope each and every one of you gets a chance to participate in something this amazing.

pause
i'm going to brisbane tomorrow!
but stopping in dubbo and various other places on the way.
the clinch is, travelling on a bus for the whole way.
doing volunteer work and staying in school halls.
should be exciting and memorable :)
wish me lots of fun

people-watching
so i work at markets.
which means i get the lovely task of watching people for hours as they browse.
and i've learnt a couple of things..
like couples who dress the same. should not. it just shouldn't be legal.
and mums who wear the same hats as their kids look cute. really.
and men's skirts exist! like cargo pant material in skirt form!
and everyone believes you'll love their pooch as much as they do.
which makes me sound like a hypocrite cough cough cough but i promise i don't believe you'll love them like i do, i just like taking photos!
